iPhone 16 Pro Wins Major Award in March, Followed by 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16

Posted on 4 June 2025

Counterpoint Research’s latest market report showcases the impressive popularity of Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup, despite the recent launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series. In March 2025, the European smartphone market saw the iPhone family dominate the top three sales positions, with the iPhone 16 coming in ninth, narrowly outperforming the previous generation iPhone 15. Samsung’s presence was notably diminished, with its Galaxy S25 range occupying the fourth through eighth slots. Although the competition includes five devices from both companies in the top ten, it’s clear that Samsung is struggling to keep pace with Apple.

The age disparity between the iPhone 16 series and the newly released Galaxy S25 trio might amplify Samsung’s discomfort, especially if the S25 models were anticipated to perform exceptionally well during this period. Despite Samsung managing to outperform Apple in the January to March timeframe, its success was bolstered by a broader product range, including popular mid-range models like the Galaxy A55 5G and A16 5G. Interestingly, the A55, despite not making last year’s global top ten, found success in Europe by ranking seventh a year after its release. As for the iPhone 16e, its market performance remains questionable.

Compared to the iPhone 16 Pro and the higher-end models, the 16e has not reached the same sales success. It notably falls short against the earlier budget-friendly iPhone SE models, selling significantly fewer units upon release. These sales figures reflect a decline in initial consumer interest, revealing challenges for a device that Apple had high hopes for. In Western Europe, the iPhone 16e performed better than in the Eastern part, but the focus remains on Apple’s and Samsung’s hold on the market, with other brands failing to penetrate the top ten.

The consumer landscape in Europe is distinctly characterized by the dominance of these two tech giants.
