Intense Competition for Samsung’s New Flagship Tablet Ahead of Launch, Reports Reuters AP Newsletters

Posted on 5 June 2025

Samsung’s forthcoming flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S11, faces increased competition with the impending arrival of Honor’s next-generation device, the MagicPad 3. As Samsung’s release is still several months away, the window of opportunity for competitors to capture market share is wide open, particularly for Honor, a rising player in the consumer electronics landscape.

Recent leaks suggest that Honor is nearing the launch of the MagicPad 3, with famed leaker Digital Chat Station sharing essential specifications on Weibo. However, the buzz around the new tablet also reveals some potential shortcomings that may prevent Honor from swaying consumers away from established brands like Samsung and Apple.

One notable concern is the reportedly downgraded display of the MagicPad 3 compared to its predecessor, the MagicPad 2. While the previous model boasted a stunning 12.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 3000 pixels and a 144Hz refresh rate, the new offering appears to offer only modest improvements.

Despite this, there is a silver lining, as the MagicPad 3 may feature a larger overall display, appealing to those in search of bigger tablets. Powering the MagicPad 3 will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a solid choice, though it’s worth noting that this chipset was originally launched two years ago.

More important, however, is that the Galaxy Tab S11 is expected to utilize MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400, adding a layer of competition in performance capabilities. In terms of specifications, the MagicPad 3 will include a robust 16GB of RAM, with storage options reaching up to 1TB.

Honor’s choice to provide various sizes will cater to different requirements and budgets. Additionally, the device is anticipated to support 66W wired charging similar to the MagicPad 2, which featured a 10,050 mAh battery.

Thus, while charging speeds remain on par with its predecessor, other aspects may need further refinement for Honor to carve out a firmer foothold in the competitive tablet market.
