Huawei is set to launch its new Pura 80 series on June 11, finally bringing to market a lineup of mid-range smartphones that were initially expected in April. The announcement comes via Huawei’s Weibo page, where they revealed that four new models will debut in China: the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, Pura 80 Pro+, and Pura 80 Ultra. In addition to these smartphones, the company will also unveil the Watch 5 smartwatch.
The Pura series is known for its camera-centric design, with the previous Pura 70 series highlighting a versatile camera system. However, recent leaks suggest that the upcoming Pura 80 series may not see significant upgrades. Reports indicate that the Pura 80 Ultra will feature a 50-megapixel 1-inch main camera sensor with a variable aperture, alongside a periscope telephoto lens offering dual focal lengths, one of the largest for mid-range devices.
The Pura 80 is expected to include a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 2-megapixel color temperature sensor, mimicking the camera specifications of the Pura 70 Ultra with only a minor upgrade to the color temperature sensor. All four smartphones in the Pura 80 series are anticipated to be powered by the Kirin 9020 chipset and will operate on HarmonyOS 5, Huawei’s alternative to Android. Although the official launch is on June 11, reports suggest that the phones may not become available until July.
This delay contrasts with the Pura 70 series, which launched in April of the previous year, indicating potential challenges for Huawei’s premium mid-range smartphone rollout.
