Google Email Suggests Gemini Might Replace Google Assistant by July 7th

Posted on 27 June 2025

An upcoming update on July 7th may signal a significant shift for Google users, hinting at the potential replacement of Google Assistant with Gemini. Gemini, an advanced AI model, is stepping into the spotlight as users increasingly seek robust virtual assistants. Historically, Google Assistant was renowned for its superior understanding of queries compared to competitors like Siri, Alexa, and Cortana.

However, with the rise of advanced AI language models, users are now drawn to more capable alternatives. An email from Google indicated that significant changes to Gemini will soon be implemented, enabling it to access various functions on Android devices, even with the Gemini Apps Activity feature turned off. This means that users can leverage Gemini to handle tasks such as sending messages, making calls, and setting alarms, all while maintaining their privacy by not contributing to the training of Google’s AI models.

As this new update rolls out, Android users will find themselves empowered to use Gemini as an effective personal assistant, even if they have concerns about their data. Presently, disabling the Gemini Apps Activity restricts functionality, but the July changes will allow users to carry out essential tasks without compromising their privacy preferences. However, there is an important caveat: Google will continue to store user activity with Gemini for up to 72 hours for security and feedback purposes.

Users can manage their activity settings within the Gemini app by following simple steps to turn off and, if desired, delete their past interactions. As Google progresses with its AI advancements, Apple and its Siri assistant may find themselves increasingly outpaced, as Google integrates sophisticated AI capabilities into its suite of tools. With delays in improvements for Siri, Apple’s challenge to keep up with AI trends becomes more pronounced.
