Despite its name, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE may emerge as the top foldable of the year.

Posted on 6 June 2025

I may be in the minority, but I find the upcoming Fan Edition foldable, set to launch in July, far more exciting than the repetitive devices previously discussed. My enthusiasm stems primarily from one major factor: the pricing is finally reasonable. For those who have followed my editorial pieces over the past year, it’s clear that I have a tendency to be quite frugal when it comes to tech purchases.

I dislike spending more than necessary on new phones, which is why I currently use a budget-friendly Motorola Moto G-series device. Despite my love for affordable options, I’ve been intrigued by foldables since Samsung pioneered the category in 2019. Recently, I’ve been thrilled about the decreasing prices of the Motorola Razr series.

Just as I was considering the new Razr (2025) priced at $699.99, rumors of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE emerged, promising a similarly competitive price point for Samsung’s long-awaited budget-friendly clamshell. While South Korea’s pricing is different from that of the U.S., if the Z Flip 7 FE starts at about $735 in its home market, it could retail for under $800 in the States. Given that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 starts around $1,100, it’s astonishing to think of a new Samsung foldable available for $300 less.

The design may resemble the “outdated” Galaxy Z Flip 5, but as long as the pricing remains approachable, the Z Flip 7 FE could feature impressive specs, including a main 6.7-inch display, an auxiliary 3.4-inch screen, and 8GB of RAM, all running either Android 15 or 16. However, the phone’s name deserves criticism. It’s unlikely anyone will use the complex title Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE in everyday conversation, which could hinder its appeal in a saturated market.

To reclaim its dominance in foldable sales, Samsung must deliver distinctive products that stand out from competitors like Motorola, Google, and Huawei. While the design may not be groundbreaking, the specs and pricing are looking promising. Hopefully, Samsung will reconsider the device’s name.

A simpler and more catchy title, like X Flip or Galaxy Z Flip FE, could enhance its marketability. With my background in tech journalism and a passion for mid-range smartphones, I will keep watching as this Fan Edition unfolds.
