Competitor to Galaxy Z Fold 7 Confirms Camera Upgrade Ahead of Major Launch Event

Posted on 27 June 2025

Honor is set to launch the new Magic V5 just days before Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, positioning itself as a formidable competitor in the foldable smartphone market. Recently, Honor has shared details about the camera system of the Magic V5, drawing excitement from tech enthusiasts.

The Magic V5 aims to reclaim the title of the world’s thinnest foldable phone, a title previously held by the Magic V3 and currently by the Oppo Find N5. However, beyond its thin design, the spotlight is on its impressive camera capabilities.

Honor has confirmed that the foldable will feature a 64 MP periscope telephoto camera, dispelling previous speculation about a 50 MP sensor. This camera is designed with optical image stabilization and supports telephoto macro photography, making it a standout option for capturing detailed close-ups and stable zoomed-in shots.

Additionally, the camera setup will likely include a 50 MP main camera and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera, creating a robust triple-camera arrangement. By comparison, the upcoming vivo X Fold 5, recently released in China, offers a similar setup, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumored to feature a different arrangement, including a 200 MP main camera.

The Honor Magic V5 is not just about cameras; it is launching on July 2 with a massive 6,100mAh battery, surpassing both the vivo X Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This combination of design and performance factors creates an increasingly difficult decision for consumers.

However, in the U.S. market, the choice may already be influenced as Samsung remains the only brand to widely offer foldables. If all three options were available, preferences might vary, with the Honor Magic V5 attracting those interested in innovative features, while others might lean towards the established Samsung for global support.

In the end, the competition among these high-end devices underscores the rapid advancements in mobile technology, inviting users to discern which features matter most to them.
