WWDC 2025, Apple’s prominent annual developer conference, is fast approaching, with the keynote set for June 9. The event will run until June 13 and is expected to mainly highlight the new operating systems Apple plans to unveil in the fall.
A major topic of interest is the anticipated rebranding of the new iOS, with rumors suggesting that what was previously referred to as iOS 19 will now be called iOS 26. Celebrity industry analyst Mark Gurman has hinted that this change will reflect the current year in the naming convention across all of Apple’s operating systems being announced.
The iOS 26 update promises significant changes, including a potential design refresh reminiscent of visionOS, featuring translucent menus and glass-like effects. Additionally, enhancements in battery life, attributed to AI optimizations for managing background apps, are expected.
Other anticipated features include simplified public Wi-Fi logins, new accessibility tools, and a redesigned camera app, alongside new capabilities for gaming and the AirPods. Similar rebranding efforts are likely to extend to iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, all adopting the ’26’ designation.
iPadOS 26 is expected to mirror iOS 26’s visual and AI advancements, while macOS 26 may also receive a visual overhaul and integrate Apple Intelligence functionalities. watchOS 26 will likely follow suit in alignment with the other operating systems.
While AI’s role, particularly through Apple Intelligence, remains uncertain amidst the anticipation of authorative announcements, analysts suggest a more subdued focus this year. Although updates to the Shortcuts app and minor enhancements can be expected, more ambitious AI features might not take center stage.
Regarding hardware, Apple’s WWDC typically does not reveal significant new devices, and this year seems no different. Rumors suggest no announcements related to new iPhones, AirPods, or Mac hardware.
The focus will primarily be on software updates and enhancements.
