Android may soon introduce a feature similar to Apple’s Contact Posters, which could enhance the calling experience. Although Google has yet to confirm this development, evidence from a recent APK teardown of the Google Contacts app suggests the potential arrival of “calling cards.”
This feature aims to allow users to customize how they appear on someone else’s call screen. In version 4.55 of the Google Contacts app, developers discovered strings of code referring to using an image as both a contact photo and a calling card.
While details are still limited, it hints that users may be able to link their profile images to create a more personalized call screen. The code also indicates support for full-screen images and custom fonts, mirroring the functionality found in Apple’s Contact Posters.
This feature enables iPhone users to personalize how their name and photo appear during calls, integrating seamlessly with other features like NameDrop for sharing contact information. Further findings in Google Play Services hint at the ability to sync calling cards to the cloud, allowing users to manage their calling cards across multiple devices.
If implemented, this could revolutionize Android’s call interface, making it more visually engaging. Profile photos linked to users’ Google accounts could be an easy way to add a personal touch to the call experience.
However, while the prospect of calling cards is exciting, it’s important to remain cautious. APK teardowns are indicative of features in development but do not guarantee their release.
