Last month, I applied to join T-Mobile’s T-Satellite beta program, which offers 90 days of free direct-to-cell service. This service enables users to send texts through satellites even in areas without cellular signal. Interestingly, it’s not necessary to be a T-Mobile subscriber to participate in this beta program.
Like many others, I am also not a T-Mobile customer. I learned from a prior email that my iPhone 15 Pro Max is compatible with T-Satellite. Recently, T-Mobile reached out again to inform me that my invitation to the beta is forthcoming.
The email indicated that T-Mobile’s partners, including well-known manufacturers like Apple and Samsung, are actively working to optimize more devices for direct-to-cell satellite use. I can expect my beta invitation in a few weeks, and those who signed up will soon receive similar updates outlining the benefits of participation. As a beta tester, I’ll enjoy a host of perks, including free satellite service, access to T-Mobile’s 5G network with 50GB of high-speed data, and unlimited texts.
The program also features exciting T-Mobile rewards such as discounted movie and concert tickets, travel savings, and unique weekly perks through T-Mobile Tuesdays. Additionally, once the beta concludes, I will receive a $5 discount on satellite service, lowering the monthly fee from $15 to $10. Furthermore, T-Mobile has indicated that if I confirm my phone’s compatibility, I could receive a full year of T-Satellite for free by switching from my current carrier.
Currently, T-Satellite supports sending and receiving standard text messages, as well as texting to 911 and sharing location information. Future updates may allow users to make voice calls and run apps through the satellite connection. It’s essential to be aware that the beta will automatically renew at $10 per month when the 90-day period ends, so I need to keep track of when my free service expires to avoid any billing surprises.
