T-Mobile Customers with Older Samsung Phones Receive Anticipated Notification—Proceed with Caution

Posted on 6 May 2025

Samsung’s rollout of the Android 15-based One UI 7 update has certainly tested the patience of its customers. Initially, the update was already six months late, and just as it began to roll out in early April, another week-long delay was announced. Thankfully, since then, the process has been relatively smooth, with T-Mobile customers of older Samsung models finally receiving the update. Typically, carrier-locked phones or those purchased through telecom providers experience delays in receiving software updates when compared to unlocked phones.

This is due to the additional time carriers need for their own optimization and customization. Interestingly, the May update recently reached carrier-locked Galaxy S25 models ahead of the unlocked versions, although it’s unclear if this trend is also applicable to T-Mobile devices. T-Mobile has been quite efficient in terms of the One UI 7 update. Within ten days following the resumption of the rollout, T-Mobile began deploying the update for last-generation flagship users.

Currently, the update is being pushed to Galaxy S21 and S22 owners, and it’s likely that devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Fold 3, and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Flip 3 will also receive the update soon. The One UI 7 update features significant enhancements, including visual improvements and AI functionalities, which likely contributed to the longer-than-anticipated rollout. However, users should be cautious as there are reports of battery life issues following the update. Usually, this problem resolves itself within a couple of weeks after initial installation.
