T-Mobile recently stirred confusion among its customers with an email that suggested they might have been dropped from the Starlink satellite program. This misunderstanding was cleared up by the company, which reassured users that the list of eligible devices had not changed.
Originally, T-Mobile had announced a launch for the service in July; however, some customers are beginning to question whether it has already gone live. The service, designed to provide connectivity in areas with no terrestrial networks, has been in beta since February.
T-Mobile’s recent communications have left some customers believing that a significant milestone has been reached, potentially indicating a commercial launch. Users on platforms like Reddit have expressed that the messaging they received suggested an immediate activation, even questioning the lack of specific mention of the July timeline in the emails.
In fact, some customers had already experienced the beta feature before the official beta program commenced, which raises the possibility that T-Mobile may have soft-launched the service. This scenario would explain the sudden promotional materials sent to users, sparking inquiries about the service’s status.
Alternatively, it may be that T-Mobile is ramping up marketing efforts ahead of the official July launch to encourage sign-ups. While the service remains free for customers on premium plans, others, including those with older plans and customers of competitors like AT&T and Verizon, will incur monthly fees after the beta phase concludes.
Currently, T-Mobile users can only send and receive text messages via satellite, but the company plans to enable data support and voice capabilities in the future. As of now, T-Mobile has not provided additional comments on the matter and updates are expected.
