In the past few years, Samsung has been recognized as a leader among the top Android smartphone vendors for delivering rapid, stable, and comprehensive software updates. However, the rollout of One UI 7 was a notable misstep for the company. Delays in the release and several issues across different devices marred the update’s introduction. Fortunately, Samsung appears to be learning from its past challenges, indicating that the One UI 8 update may follow a much smoother path, barring any unexpected technical glitches.
The anticipation builds for Samsung’s upcoming summer releases, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, which are set to debut with the Android 16-based One UI 8. Although the official names for the next-generation foldables have not been confirmed, speculation widely points to these two models. There are even rumors of a budget-friendly option, potentially called the Z Flip FE or Flip Xe, being showcased at an Unpacked event in July. While Samsung has not specified the exact date for this event, it is evident that the 2025 foldables will receive their software faster than previous models.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 were introduced with One UI 6 over three months after their launch, in contrast to the more timely updates expected with the upcoming devices. Samsung’s partnership with Google has facilitated a proactive approach, allowing the company to launch an early public beta for its Galaxy S25 series. The global release for the foldables is anticipated to follow shortly. Despite these advancements, it is unclear if the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 will boost sales significantly.
However, they are expected to feature larger screens, improved camera specifications, extended battery life, and a stylish design, further bolstered by updated software. These enhancements may help in attracting a more enthusiastic consumer base and addressing the current challenges facing foldable sales.
