Posted on 6 May 2025

Samsung has recently announced the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Tactical Edition, specially designed for the U.S. military. This rugged tablet enhances features to address military needs and provides robust security and support for mission-critical applications commonly used by special operations teams.

The Tactical Edition solutions from Samsung combine commercially available devices with tailored software, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands faced by military personnel in challenging environments. The Galaxy Tab Active 5 represents a significant advancement in tactical technology, offering improvements in situational awareness through its larger format.

Developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense, Samsung’s Tactical Edition lineup is actively utilized across various military branches and by first responders in the U.S. The latest model retains features from its predecessors, such as tactical radio interoperability and mission-ready software, while introducing new hardware enhancements to secure classified communications.

One of the standout features includes compatibility with a range of tactical radios, drone systems, and laser range finders, along with robust cellular capabilities such as 5G and Wi-Fi 6E. The tablet also includes a Stealth Mode for secure, off-grid communications by disabling certain functions to prevent signal broadcasting.

Security is a key focus, with features like the Covert Lock to disable communications and GPS, ensuring no RF emissions. Additionally, it incorporates nighttime viewing settings and mission-specific applications such as the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK).

Built to endure tough conditions, the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Tactical Edition can withstand drops of up to 1.5 meters, is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, and complies with MIL-STD-810H standards. It is equipped with an Exynos 1380 processor, an 8-inch display, and dual cameras, making it a powerful tool for military operations.

This device will be available exclusively through select IT channel partners.
