Foldable iPhone Could Launch Featuring Samsung Technology Not Yet Adopted by the Company Itself

Posted on 9 May 2025

New rumors are circulating about the foldable iPhone, suggesting it may feature a unique display panel sourced from Samsung that has yet to be used in its own foldable devices. The anticipation surrounding the iPhone Fold is growing, with whispers from various sources indicating Apple’s intention to incorporate a new, slimmer display technology in its design.

The display is a critical element in any foldable phone, and Apple reportedly aims to eliminate the persistent crease that has become synonymous with current foldable devices. According to the leaker “Yeux1122,” the display for the iPhone Fold could be manufactured using a process not previously employed by Samsung in its foldable models.

This innovation may involve integrating the touch sensor directly into the display, streamlining the design and allowing for a thickness reduction of approximately 19% compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. The implications of this development could lead to a lighter device with enhanced features, such as improved color reproduction and brightness, potentially achieving higher peak brightness levels.

The leaker notes that Apple is known for its high standards and is not inclined to adopt conventional technologies, which may have informed this unique display configuration. The rumored specifications include an internal screen measuring 7.76 inches with a resolution of 2,713 by 1,920 pixels, along with a cover display of 5.49 inches at a resolution of 2,088 by 1,422 pixels.

Additionally, discussions about the inclusion of an under-display camera have emerged, adding further intrigue. As for availability, speculation indicates that Samsung will be the sole supplier for the foldable iPhone’s display panels.

Apple has reportedly considered LG as an alternative but appears to be favoring Samsung for this project. The expected price range for this premium device is estimated between $2,100 and $2,300, with a possible announcement slated for late 2026 or early 2027.
