Expected Updates to the Pixel 10 Camera: What to Anticipate

Posted on 9 May 2025

The Google Pixel 10 series, set for release in 2025, is anticipated to bring significant upgrades to the camera system, particularly in the base model. One of the most notable changes includes the addition of a telephoto lens, marking the first time a standard Pixel model will feature three rear cameras.

This new telephoto camera will likely utilize an 11 MP Samsung 3J1 sensor, the same sensor used in the Pixel 9 Pro. However, this addition may come at the cost of other camera components, as Google may need to make adjustments within the phone’s overall structure.

The Pixel 10 is expected to enhance its imaging capabilities, enabling it to align more closely with flagship models. The main camera of the Pixel 10 will reportedly include a Samsung GN8 sensor, which is smaller than the one used in the previous models.

Nevertheless, Google’s software expertise could offset this perceived hardware downgrade. The new Tensor G5 chip, the first chip entirely designed by Google, could introduce advanced AI-powered features that enhance overall performance.

These features may include video generation tools for smarter edits, voice-controlled photo adjustments, and a new cinematic rendering engine to improve video capture. The Tensor G5 is also believed to support 4K 60fps HDR video, a significant upgrade from the previous 30fps limit.

While the Pixel 10 is set to receive a new camera setup, the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL are likely to retain their existing triple-camera configurations. Both models will focus on software upgrades, particularly in video quality, which has lagged behind competitors.

The expectation is that the advancements brought by the Tensor G5 will lead to improved performance across the board, propelling the Pixel 10 series forward in the competitive smartphone market.
