Apple’s AI to Integrate Google Gemini, Likely Launching with iOS 19 This Year

Posted on 1 May 2025

Apple is poised to introduce Google’s Gemini AI technology this year, potentially coinciding with the launch of iOS 19. The collaboration comes after Samsung’s own integration of Gemini, which has gained considerable attention in the AI field. Despite Apple’s commitment to artificial intelligence, it has faced challenges due to premature announcements without tangible outcomes.

By incorporating Google’s Gemini, Apple can start delivering meaningful AI features to its users while it develops its proprietary tools for the future. Gemini has become one of the most recognized AI models currently available, standing alongside competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Meta’s Llama, and the contentious Chinese AI known as DeepSeek. Apple is working to implement Gemini across various markets, but it is also in negotiations with a Chinese AI firm to extend Apple Intelligence to China.

Google’s Sundar Pichai has discussed this partnership in recent court hearings linked to the Safari browser’s use of Google as the default search engine. If the agreement is finalized—with expectations for an announcement at the upcoming WWDC—Apple could significantly enhance its AI capabilities. Currently, Apple’s AI features fall short compared to those of rivals like Samsung.

The integration of Gemini could elevate the quality of AI tools on iPhones, although it may reduce Apple’s sense of exclusivity. Nonetheless, the collaboration is seen as a temporary measure, allowing Apple the time needed to refine its AI offerings, including upgrades to Siri. Ultimately, while Gemini may be an addition, Apple aims to retain its own AI solutions for the long term.
