Apple’s Acquisition Last Year May Pave the Way for Significant AI Announcement at WWDC

Posted on 10 May 2025

Apple is expected to unveil new AI enhancements for its native iOS calendar app at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month. The tech giant’s recent acquisition of Mayday Labs Inc. could play a significant role in this development. In April 2024, Apple purchased Mayday Labs, a company known for its AI-driven calendar application designed for iOS, iPad, and Mac users.

Although the Mayday app was discontinued on May 1, 2024, its innovative features included an all-in-one Calendar, Task Manager, and Scheduling Assistant, which personalized scheduling based on user preferences. The app utilized AI to streamline meeting coordination among team members, eliminating the need to check individual schedules. Users could simply input the duration and time frame of an event, and Mayday would suggest optimal scheduling options while offering one-click and automatic rescheduling.

With iOS 19 anticipated for release later this year, many believe that Apple will integrate some of these AI capabilities into its native calendar app. Given that the Mayday app is no longer available and Apple now owns the technology, there is a strong possibility that we will see a showcase of these enhancements during the WWDC keynote on June 9th. Apple has a history of making strategic acquisitions to enhance its products.

For instance, the company acquired biometric firm AuthenTec in 2012 for $356 million, leading to the introduction of Touch ID on the iPhone 5s less than a year later. It’s plausible that Apple could begin to incorporate elements from the Mayday acquisition into its calendar app following a year of development. However, there remains a slight chance that Apple may elect not to implement any of Mayday’s features, leaving anticipation building for the upcoming announcement.
