Apple Could Be Revamping a Well-Known Feature of the Apple Watch, Reports Suggest

Posted on 25 May 2025

Apple is reportedly exploring a significant redesign for its popular Watch series, as indicated by a recent patent filing. The current model, the Apple Watch Series 10, retains the recognizable rectangular structure with rounded edges but boasts a larger, edge-to-edge display. A breakthrough could be on the horizon, however, with designs showing a display that wraps around the watch’s sides.

This innovative approach features a screen that extends beyond the flat surface and curves around the edges of the watch body. The potential advantages of this design are considerable, including increased display area without enlarging the watch itself. Moreover, these curved edges could introduce new touch controls, enhancing user interaction significantly.

With the absence of traditional physical buttons, this next-generation smartwatch could rely on eSIM support, allowing users to leave their phones behind. Although the current Apple Watches permit standalone functionality, a larger, more versatile screen would integrate advanced smartphone features directly into the watch, potentially redefining how users approach their daily communications and tasks. Interestingly, this concept brings to mind unconventional designs from the tech world, such as the experimental Motorola concept phone that could wrap around a wrist.

While that design seemed more science fiction than practical, it reflects the ongoing interest in flexible and wearable technology. In addition to these advancements, Apple had previously considered introducing a watch with a built-in camera aimed for launch in 2027. However, it appears that the company has pivoted from that idea, focusing instead on enhancing the core functionalities of its smartwatch lineup.

As Apple continues to innovate, wearable tech enthusiasts eagerly await how these developments will shape the future of the Apple Watch.
