Verizon’s aerial drones ensured your Mardi Gras festivities remained just within the bounds of legality.

Managing large crowds during significant events like Mardi Gras can pose challenges, but Verizon’s Frontline Crisis Response Team was present to assist with over 140 drone flights, totaling more than 45 hours of aerial surveillance. The primary objective was to help law enforcement quickly identify and address potential issues while ensuring the safety of celebration attendees.

Verizon Frontline aims to provide emergency support to government agencies, first responders, and frontline workers during critical situations. The drone operations are designed to enhance real-time decision-making, minimize risks for individuals on the ground, and maintain smooth event operations.

This technological oversight is especially vital for large gatherings like Mardi Gras, which has a rich history dating back to the 16th century and attracts millions with its vibrant parades and festivities, contributing over a billion dollars to the local economy annually. The collaboration between Verizon’s team and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) highlights the importance of modern technology in managing such grand events.

By utilizing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), the NOPD gained improved situational awareness, allowing officers to effectively monitor crowds and react more swiftly to any concerns, ultimately ensuring a safe environment for everyone involved. Verizon is not alone in its efforts to support local communities; other major carriers, such as T-Mobile and AT&T, have also stepped up during challenging times.

These companies have provided vital services during natural disasters, including offering free Wi-Fi, unlimited calls, and waiving charges. Such initiatives demonstrate the difference that technology can make when it comes to supporting public safety and aiding communities in need.
