Samsung is reportedly accelerating the rollout of its next major software update, One UI 8, which is based on Android 16. Early internal test builds have been identified, indicating that the official release may occur as soon as July 2025.
This timeline represents a significant change from previous updates, particularly following the difficult launch of One UI 7 this year. The initial rollout of One UI 7 faced numerous complications shortly after Google released Android 15 in October 2024.
Samsung users experienced extended delays before receiving updates on their Galaxy devices, and the process was far from seamless. The company even had to temporarily suspend the update in various regions due to a critical bug that affected the unlock feature, leaving many users frustrated.
The challenges continued, especially for owners of older Galaxy devices still awaiting updates. With One UI 8, Samsung seems determined to learn from these past mistakes.
According to leaker @tarunvats33, One UI 8 is currently undergoing internal testing on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Furthermore, a list of compatible Galaxy S series devices has surfaced, which includes the Galaxy S25 (including Edge), S24 (including FE), S23 (including FE), S22, and S21 FE.
Additionally, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are expected to be released in mid-July, narrowing the gap between Samsung’s update and Google’s Android 16 debut. While specific features for One UI 8 remain limited, early reports suggest enhancements to customization, visual aesthetics, gallery, and file management, as well as upgraded privacy and security features stemming from Android 16.
If the predicted timeline holds, Galaxy S24 users could see their devices receive the first major platform update much sooner than anticipated. After the challenges encountered with One UI 7, Samsung appears to be moving forward rapidly, leaving users hopeful for a smoother experience this time around.
