Cricket Wireless has recently launched an innovative Device Trade-In Program, starting on April 4, 2025. This initiative, powered by Asurion, allows customers to trade in old smartphones for account credit, directly reducing their wireless service bill. Unlike typical trade-in programs that offer gift cards or credits toward purchasing a new phone, Cricket’s program simplifies the process.
Customers can turn in their old devices, and the valued amount goes straight to their monthly service costs without any activation fees, expiration dates, or conditions for purchasing new devices. To participate in the trade-in program, customers can visit a local Cricket store or navigate to the online Asurion trade-in portal. The first step involves assessing the device’s eligibility, where Asurion checks the details and provides an estimated trade-in value.
Once customers accept the offered value, they will receive a prepaid shipping label to send their devices. Upon approval, the credit will be applied to the Cricket account within 1 to 2 billing cycles. This program is particularly timely, given the competitive landscape of trade-in deals among major carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
While these providers often require customers to finance a new phone or sign long-term plans, Cricket stands out by offering direct service credits without any such commitments. This approach caters especially to budget-conscious users who wish to take advantage of low-service costs. However, it’s important to note a few limitations.
The trade-in credit can only be used for service purposes and holds no cash value or transferability. For long-term Cricket customers, though, this initiative presents a practical way to derive value from old devices. In a market where wireless prices are rising, having such straightforward savings options is essential for maintaining affordable wireless service.
