The smartphone landscape is gearing up for an intriguing rivalry in 2025, centered around two clamshell foldable devices: the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Motorola Razr Ultra. Both phones are expected to offer significant improvements, particularly in battery capacity. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is rumored to feature a 4,300mAh battery with a 25W wired charging speed, marking a 7.5% increase over the previous model.
Meanwhile, the Razr Ultra is anticipated to have a more substantial 4,700mAh battery, a 17.5% jump, accompanied by an impressive 68W wired charging and 30W wireless charging capability. In terms of display technology, the Razr Ultra is set to stand out with its 7-inch internal display, surpassing the 6.8-inch screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Both devices are likely to include similarly sized 4-inch external displays.
Performance-wise, they will share the powerful 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, although Samsung may utilize a special “For Galaxy” version. The Razr Ultra is expected to come equipped with 16GB of RAM, outpacing the 12GB in the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Camera specifications are another area of competition.
The Razr Ultra is set to feature a 50MP Sony LYTIA 700c main sensor, which also serves as its ultra-wide and macro camera. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will reportedly rely on a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 10MP selfie camera. Despite Samsung’s established dominance in smartphone photography, the enhanced features of the Razr Ultra may challenge this perception.
As Motorola continues to refine its Razr lineup, this rivalry could reshape the foldable smartphone market, potentially rivaling the ongoing competition between major flagship models such as the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
