T-Mobile has recently revamped its Carrier Freedom program, now known as Family Freedom, which aims to attract current Verizon users while still competing with AT&T. This program makes it easier for customers to switch providers without the burden of outstanding fees, as T-Mobile will cover these costs. Under the new Family Freedom initiative, T-Mobile has enhanced its offerings by increasing payouts and bill credits.
Customers can receive up to $800 per line for up to four lines, which sums up to a maximum reimbursement of $3,200 to cover existing contracts. Additionally, transitioning customers have the option to secure up to $1,000 in bill credits when trading in their current phones for new devices. Despite these improvements, T-Mobile’s updated program does not fully measure up to AT&T’s recently launched Switch and Save offer, which is more appealing as it allows transfers for up to ten lines.
Nevertheless, T-Mobile is now accepting port-ins from Verizon, eliminating the prior requirement for users to bring their own devices through the Keep and Switch initiative. The Family Freedom program also allows customers to stack other promotional deals, enabling new device acquisitions, such as the iPhone 16 or Galaxy S25, for free upon switching. However, certain “On Us” deals might necessitate the purchase of higher-tiered plans like Go5G Next.
To facilitate a smooth transition, customers are advised to present the most recent bill in PDF form to T-Mobile. This is essential for validating the value of their old device, which will then determine the rebate amount provided via a Visa card. While each carrier has its unique advantages and disadvantages, programs like Family Freedom are beneficial during challenging times, providing more options for consumers looking to switch services.
