Be prepared for a potential increase in your Spotify subscription if you are located in Europe or Latin America. Reports are indicating that a price hike may be on the way for the popular music streaming service. This would not be the first adjustment made by Spotify in an effort to enhance its revenue.
According to recent information, Spotify is contemplating raising the price of its standard Individual subscription plan by approximately €1 (around $1.14 USD) in several countries within these regions. This change could potentially be implemented as early as June 2025. An insider has suggested that Spotify’s initiatives to increase prices “would intensify considerably this summer.”
This potential price adjustment follows several previous increases. Recently, Spotify raised the costs of all its plans in the Netherlands and Luxembourg. There, the Individual plan experienced an 18 percent increase, going from €10.99 ($12.48 USD) to €12.99 ($14.76 USD).
The Family and Duo plans also saw a rise in costs. In the broader context of the streaming industry, this development is quite expected. Many services, whether in music, podcasts, or video, have gradually upped their subscription fees over the past years.
Companies are constantly juggling subscriber retention with the necessity to enhance profitability and cover rising content licensing costs. While competitors such as Apple Music and YouTube Music have not announced widespread price hikes for 2025, they have adjusted their pricing strategies in the past, reflecting a trend across the digital subscription market. In the U.S., the current Spotify plan appears unaffected by this potential increase.
However, Spotify is reportedly preparing to unveil a new subscription option for the U.S. market, known as a “super-premium” tier. This plan may come with a higher price—approximately $6 more than the current individual Premium plan—as well as new perks like higher fidelity audio. There’s even speculation about possible exclusive content for this premium tier.
As the streaming subscription landscape evolves, even minor price increases can accumulate over time, especially for users subscribed to multiple services. It will be interesting to see if the new features in the super-premium tier offer enough value to justify these potential cost increases.
