Samsung Aims to Compete with Chrome by Revamping Its Browser for Enhanced User Experience on Phones

Posted on 28 April 2025

Significant changes are on the horizon for Samsung Internet with the upcoming One UI 8 update, anticipated to launch alongside Android 16 later this year. While One UI 7 remains the standard for many users, Samsung is already working on the next version, focusing on enhancing the overall user experience, particularly through its browser. One of the most notable updates is a complete visual refresh of the Samsung Internet app.

Early reports indicate that users will soon be able to personalize the start page background with custom images, departing from the current plain design. The user interface is also expected to become more streamlined, with increased spacing between buttons and menus to create a less cluttered and more navigable environment. A newly designed carousel will showcase recently visited websites, including those accessed on other devices linked to the same Samsung Account, ensuring a seamless browsing experience across platforms.

Additionally, a revamped pop-up menu will be accessible through the familiar three-line icon. This menu will feature circular buttons and an icon grid, facilitating quicker access to essential functions like bookmarks, history, and downloads. The icons will match the color palette of the user’s current device theme for a more cohesive aesthetic.

The intention behind these updates is to modernize Samsung Internet, which competes with popular browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. The redesign aligns with Samsung’s broader One UI approach, aiming for a polished software experience across all their devices. It’s important to note that these features are based on early development builds of One UI 8, and the final design may undergo changes before the anticipated launch in the second half of 2025.

Overall, this refresh suggests a significant improvement to the user experience of Samsung Internet, aiming to provide a cleaner, more customizable, and user-friendly browsing experience for millions of users.
