Rumors suggest that Oppo may be planning to introduce a 200-megapixel camera in its upcoming Find X9 model, as indicated by a tip from the Chinese social media user Smart Pikachu. This development could mark a significant advancement for Oppo’s telephoto photography capabilities, as the 200 MP sensor is likely intended for the periscope telephoto lens rather than the primary camera. Currently, Samsung leads the high-resolution camera segment with its 200 MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor, utilized in devices like the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
It appears that Oppo might follow the trend set by competitors such as Honor and Vivo, who have also integrated 200 MP sensors into their telephoto cameras. Although the leak did not specify which sensor would be used, Samsung’s ISOCELL HP9 is a strong candidate, especially considering its successful implementation in the Vivo X200 Pro, which excelled in zoom photography. Should Oppo adopt the ISOCELL HP9, it would represent a marked enhancement over the 50 MP telephoto camera in the OPPO Find X7 Ultra.
The increased sensor size of 1/1.4 inches compared to the earlier 1/2.51 inches should facilitate better light capture and image clarity, particularly at extended focal lengths. This shift could position Oppo closer to competing brands, especially regarding zoom performance. Adding to the excitement, Oppo recently unveiled its new ‘Lumo’ image processing engine, which is expected to improve various aspects of photography, particularly portraits.
As Oppo gears up for the release of the Find X9, potential advancements in camera technology could elevate its status among the leading smartphone options on the market. However, the launch date for the OPPO Find X9 series is anticipated to be in Q4 2025, with attention currently focused on the upcoming Find X8 lineup, set to debut on April 10.
