Introducing WhatsApp’s major update: Discover all the exciting new features launching today!

Posted on 11 April 2025

WhatsApp frequently updates its app, but often developers do not disclose the specific changes made. This is typically reserved for significant updates, leaving many minor adjustments unreported.

However, a recent announcement has deviated from this norm, as WhatsApp has introduced its first “feature roundup.” This detailed changelog provides an overview of new features and enhancements rolled out to the app. It’s important to note that while these features may not be available to everyone immediately, they reflect recent updates that some users have yet to receive.

With that in mind, we will explore the changes introduced in WhatsApp. The latest updates primarily focus on conversations, chats, and Channels.

One notable addition is the “online” indicator in group chats, allowing users to see the real-time activity of group members. Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced highlighted notifications for group chats, providing a way for users to customize alerts based on priority.

Users can choose between “Highlights” for mentions and messages from saved contacts or “All” to receive all notifications. Moreover, WhatsApp users can now create events in 1:1 conversations, alongside existing group event features.

The app update also includes tappable reactions and a document scanning feature for iPhone users. Additionally, users can now set WhatsApp as their default messaging and calling app on their iPhones.

In terms of calls, new gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom in video calls, have been implemented for iPhone users. WhatsApp has also made it easier to add someone to an ongoing call directly from a chat.

Lastly, there have been updates to the Updates tab, enabling Channel admins to share short videos and provide voice message transcripts, as well as QR codes for audience growth. This overview highlights WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing user experience through continuous improvements and feature expansions.
