The upcoming Honor Magic V5 may be creating quite a buzz in the tech world. Named to avoid superstitions around the number 4 in Chinese culture, the Magic V5 is expected to launch in June, following the trend of skipping this number in product naming. Just as Oppo transitioned from the Find N3 to the Find N5, Honor is following suit by leaping directly to the V5 model.
In Chinese tradition, the number 4 is linked with bad luck due to its phonetic similarity to the word for “death,” leading to a cultural aversion known as tetraphobia. Consequently, mobile manufacturers often bypass the number 4 when naming new products, similar to how buildings might omit the fourth floor in favor of the fifth. The Honor Magic V5 is anticipated to be a formidable competitor against flagship foldables such as the Oppo Find N5, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Impressively slim, it will measure less than 9 mm when folded, potentially making it the sleekest option on the market, edging out the Find N5’s 8.93 mm. Camera specifications also promise to be compelling, featuring a 50MP main sensor that rivals the Find N5, while potentially introducing a game-changing 200MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Display capabilities may include an 8-inch internal screen and a 6.45-inch outer display, both equipped with 120Hz refresh rates and LTPO technology.
Other anticipated features are premium additions such as an integrated fingerprint sensor in the power button, IPX8 water resistance, wireless charging, and the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite chip. With its upcoming release, the Honor Magic V5 is shaping up to be a noteworthy player in the foldable smartphone arena.
