For minimalism enthusiasts who still desire a dedicated laptop, the GPD Pocket 3 mini laptop has received a significant upgrade. Originally launched in 2021, the Pocket 3 quickly became a favorite on Indiegogo, raising nearly $300,000 against a modest goal of less than $30,000.
The Pocket 3 features an 8-inch FHD+ touchscreen that rivals many modern foldable smartphones. Its unique design allows the screen to rotate and fold flat over the keyboard, transforming it into both a compact laptop and a tablet.
One of its standout features is a modular port system, which lets users swap the standard USB-A port for alternate modules, such as an RS-232 serial port or a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) module. This versatility especially caters to IT professionals and users with specialized equipment needs.
Initially, the GPD Pocket 3 was available with either the Intel Core i7-1195G7 or the Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processors. The company later upgraded to the Pentium Gold 7505.
The latest base model now offers an Intel Core i3-1125G4 CPU, which, despite being older and discontinued, significantly outperforms the Pentium Gold 7505. The Core i3-1125G4 CPU is a 28-watt processor with 4 cores and 8 threads, compared to the 15-watt, 2-core Pentium Gold.
Additionally, the updated Pocket 3 includes a PCIe 4.0 Gen 4 x4 SSD for quicker data speeds and has enhanced one of its USB Type-A ports to support 10 Gbps transfer rates. The new model is priced at $698 through Indiegogo.
This blend of enhanced features and the appeal of a compact design makes the GPD Pocket 3 an exciting choice for tech-savvy consumers.
