Gemini Live Now Accessible on Pixel 6 and Earlier Models, Alongside Galaxy S25 and Pixel 9 Lines

Posted on 7 April 2025

The Gemini Live feature, which debuted in January for the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S24, and Pixel 9 series, is now accessible on Pixel 6 and earlier models. This innovative feature, called “Talk Live about this,” enables users to ask Gemini questions related to images, files, and YouTube videos.

This capability is available even for those who use the free Gemini app, downloadable from the Google Play Store. To activate the Gemini “Talk Live about this” button, users should open the Gemini app and tap the “+” button located next to the text field.

Various options will appear, such as Camera, Gallery, Files, and Drive. For instance, after taking a photo with the camera, users can press a small preview button and select “Attach” to add the image to the prompt in the Gemini app.

Once attached, they’ll see the option to receive live AI analysis on the photo. The feature also works with images stored in the user’s gallery.

By tapping the “+” button, selecting Gallery, and choosing an image, users can engage Gemini for a discussion about their selected photo. This process can be replicated for files and documents via Google Drive, with compatible formats including TXT, DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, and HWP.

For YouTube videos, users can inquire about any content mentioned within video captions if the clips are up to two hours long. To use this feature, simply tap the share button on the YouTube video, copy the link, and paste it into the Gemini app’s prompt.

I tested this feature on my Pixel 6 Pro, running the latest Android 16 beta, and found it functioning seamlessly. With the Pixel March Feature Drop, users of Pixel 6 and older models, including the Pixel 6a, can now enjoy this advanced functionality.
