Galaxy phone users await Android 14, while Xiaomi and OnePlus users can explore Android 16.

Posted on 13 April 2025

The situation regarding One UI 7 has garnered significant attention, as Samsung recently rolled out its Android 15-based One UI update to millions of Galaxy devices after a lengthy nine-month wait. However, the timing has coincided with select Xiaomi and OnePlus devices offering users a chance to experience the Android 16 operating system, currently in beta testing. Google’s devices, naturally, take precedence, meaning many Pixel models, such as the Pixel 9, 8, 7, and 6, are also participating in the beta phase.

Xiaomi has made its Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 14T Pro eligible for testing and optimizing applications ahead of the new OS version. Users can install the preview build through local updates or fastboot methods, but it’s essential to back up any data beforehand, as the installation process will erase the device. Both techniques necessitate specific system version requirements prior to installation.

Meanwhile, OnePlus users can test Android 16 Beta 2 on the OnePlus 13. This version is primarily for developers and testers, not recommended for regular users who rely on their phones daily. The update for the OnePlus 13 does present known issues, particularly related to camera functionality and system stability.

Therefore, caution is advised, and backing up data is essential. Regarding the stable release of Android 16, expectations suggest it will arrive sometime after April 2025, with a possible debut in May. The progression of beta versions began with Beta 1 in January, followed by subsequent versions in February and March, indicating an operational rollout soon.

Key enhancements expected in Android 16 include improved notifications, refined camera features, and additional privacy settings. Users can also look forward to enhancements in haptic feedback and adaptive refresh rate support.
