Samsung continues to be a leading player in the rugged device market, consistently offering durable phones and tablets. Recent advancements have shed more light on the upcoming Galaxy XCover Pro model, previously known as the XCover 8 Pro. It has been spotted on Geekbench and the TÜV Rheinland certification database, revealing multiple model numbers – SM-G766B, SM-G766U, SM-G766U1, and SM-G766W – which likely represent various regional variants of the same device.
The Galaxy XCover Pro is expected to feature a 4,265 mAh battery, slightly larger than the 4,050 mAh battery found in the current XCover 7. Additionally, it will come equipped with 6GB of RAM. Despite some uncertainty over whether it will be officially named the XCover 8 Pro or XCover 7 Pro, the device is anticipated to debut soon, potentially in June or July.
Performance-wise, the Galaxy XCover Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, which was first introduced in September last year with notable enhancements over its predecessor. These include a 40% faster GPU, a 30% increase in AI capabilities, and improved power efficiency by 12%. However, it’s important to note that performance is not the primary selling point for the Galaxy XCover series; instead, it is built for durability.
The current XCover 7 boasts an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and meets MIL-STD-810H standards, making it capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, wet conditions, dirt, and accidental drops. The upcoming XCover model is expected to uphold or enhance this level of resilience. For those interested in rugged smartphones, options are limited compared to standard models.
However, durability shouldn’t be the only consideration; software support is crucial too, and Samsung is known for its reliable long-term updates.
