Samsung Warns: Exercise Caution When Purchasing a Galaxy on Facebook Marketplace

Posted on 31 March 2025

Samsung recently issued a warning about the rising prevalence of counterfeit Galaxy phones being sold on platforms like Facebook Marketplace. This concerns both potential buyers and the authenticity of the products they’re considering. Samsung’s alert on its Australian support page cautions customers to be vigilant, as these fake devices can closely resemble genuine products, complete with the company’s trademarks.

The counterfeit Galaxy phones have become more convincing, making it challenging for even experienced users to differentiate between real and fake. Some knock-offs come with detailed logos and authentic-looking packaging, which can deceive buyers relying solely on online images or videos. However, these counterfeit devices often lack essential features, such as Samsung Knox, the company’s security solution.

Additionally, users might notice discrepancies like slower charging speeds or, most importantly, a lack of software updates and security patches, indicating that the device is not authentic. For those seeking legitimate Galaxy phones at a lower price, Samsung suggests exploring its Certified Re-Newed program, available in select regions. This program offers certified pre-owned devices, ensuring customers receive a product that meets quality standards.

Unfortunately, this issue of counterfeit phones is not isolated. Just a year ago, a major scam involving fake iPhones and iPads occurred, where counterfeit devices were swapped for real ones in retail stores. The situation demonstrated how even seasoned employees could be deceived, underscoring the importance for potential buyers to only purchase from trusted sellers.

As the market for counterfeit devices continues to grow, exercising caution when making a purchase is more critical than ever.
