Apple is reportedly planning a major upgrade to its Health app with the introduction of an AI-driven coaching feature, internally codenamed Project Mulberry, which could launch alongside iOS 19.4 next year. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this initiative could significantly elevate Apple’s role in healthcare, a topic that CEO Tim Cook has hinted at as one of the company’s vital contributions to society. Project Mulberry is set to bring a complete transformation of the data collected from various Apple devices such as iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods. This new feature will provide personalized health coaching, offering insights that are tailored to individual user data.
The initiative will also include recommendations developed in conjunction with healthcare professionals, ensuring reliability. Other exciting features expected include video guides focusing on significant health topics, advanced nutrition tracking, and AI-powered workout analysis using iPhone cameras. In preparation for this launch, Apple is collaborating with an internal team of physicians and enlisting external experts to create accurate and professional content. The company has even established a dedicated facility near Oakland, California, for filming health-related videos.
Additionally, Apple is on the lookout for a well-known physician to represent the new service, whimsically referred to as “Health+.” Interestingly, this project emphasizes nutrition—a focus that Apple has previously neglected. By entering this domain, Apple aims to compete directly with existing services like MyFitnessPal and Noom, signaling ambition to become a comprehensive health resource. Given Apple’s history with health innovations, including some setbacks, Project Mulberry represents an essential opportunity for the company.
If executed successfully, it could greatly enhance how users interact with their personal health data. While there is cautious optimism surrounding its potential, the ultimate test will be its user experience upon release.
