MediaTek is set to introduce a new chipset to its lineup: the Dimensity 9400e. Initially rumored to be named Dimensity 9350, credible leakster Digital Chat Station suggests the new designation aligns it with the Dimensity 94xx family. Chipsets, or systems-on-chip (SoCs), are critical components in smartphones, essentially acting as the device’s brain.
They integrate various elements, including a central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU), memory interfaces, and communication modules. Digital Chat Station describes the Dimensity 9400e as an enhanced version of the Dimensity 9300, which currently powers devices like Vivo’s X100 series. The Dimensity 9300 features four Cortex-X4 Prime CPU cores alongside four Cortex-A720 Performance CPU cores, but notably lacks low-power efficiency cores.
The forthcoming Dimensity 9400, already unveiled in the fall of 2024, is set to power Vivo’s X200 series and will be positioned to compete with Qualcomm’s unreleased Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. While details regarding specific devices adopting the Dimensity 9400e remain unclear, it is anticipated that some exotic models from the Far East will incorporate this new chipset. Although official word on GPU upgrades is still pending, the Dimensity 9400e is expected to use the Immortalis G720 GPU, which has demonstrated impressive performance in its predecessor, particularly with a 46% boost in ray tracing capabilities.
In addition to GPU performance, gradual improvements in AI processing are anticipated, possibly linked to advancements in MediaTek’s APU 790 and its NeuroPilot architecture. Manufacturing on TSMC’s 4nm process node may also be employed for the Dimensity 9400e, focusing on power optimization and thermal management. While an exact release date is not specified, the introduction of the Dimensity 9400e appears to be on the horizon, fueling excitement within the tech community.
