Recent mockup images of the iOS 19 Messages app reveal noticeable changes but fall short of delivering any groundbreaking updates. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has remarked that these mockups, which were shared by Jon Prosser, do not accurately depict what will be unveiled at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
Gurman noted that the images stem from outdated builds and lack key features, urging users to expect more comprehensive updates from Apple during the event. Earlier in the month, Gurman described anticipated changes for iOS 19, suggesting that the update will align more closely with the design aesthetic of visionOS, which is used on the Vision Pro spatial computer.
The new update is expected to feature revised icons, updated system buttons, menus, apps, and windows, with a potential shift towards more rounded visual elements. Prosser’s mockup showcases some of the changes, primarily the addition of rounded “bubbles” surrounding the back arrow and menu icons within the Messages app.
Alongside this, word suggestions have softer, rounded corners, and the keyboard keys have also been modified. While the camera app mockup previously shared by Prosser hinted at a visionOS-inspired design with translucent controls, overall, the updates to iOS 19 appear modest rather than revolutionary.
The stable version of iOS 19 is anticipated for release in September, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 17 series. For those eager to test the beta, access is expected right after the WWDC event on June 9.
However, if Prosser’s information holds true, users may want to temper their expectations, as iOS 19 is unlikely to be the transformative update some have been hoping for.
