The Google Keep app is a multipurpose utility that allows users to jot down notes, create shopping lists, and capture fleeting ideas, among other functionalities. Available on both Android and iOS through their respective app stores, it has become an essential tool for smartphone users across different platforms. A new feature has recently launched for the Android version of Google Keep, introducing a toggle switch that lets users create text notes by default. By tapping the “plus” button in the corner, users can quickly access a blank canvas designed for new notes.
However, it’s important to note that this toggle is disabled by default, so you will need to enable it to utilize this new functionality. To activate the “Create text notes by default” option, open the Google Keep app and tap the Hamburger icon located on the left of the search bar at the top of the screen. From there, navigate to Settings. Under the Note creation section, turn on the toggle for “Create text notes by default.”
Once enabled, you can simply tap the plus sign in the lower right corner of the screen to access a preformatted text note template. In addition to traditional note-taking, Google Keep also offers the ability to generate AI-assisted lists. Users can initiate a shopping list or other types of lists by typing their requirements in the designated field just above the keyboard. After entering your list type, such as a “Spring cleaning checklist for a two-bedroom apartment,” simply tap the “Create” button to allow the app to assist you with the list.
This “Create text notes by default” toggle is part of version 5.25.102.01.90 of the Google Keep app for Android, although its rollout appears to be gradual, with some users still waiting for the update.
