Garmin’s upcoming ‘mainstream’ smartwatch launch is reportedly just around the corner.

Posted on 31 March 2025

Garmin is poised to introduce a new wearable device that may be a serious contender against the mainstream Apple Watch Series 10, offering an interesting alternative to the high-priced options available today. Reports from various sources suggest that the device, named the Vivoactive 6, will aim to provide affordable features without venturing into the pricier Fenix family.

The Vivoactive 6 is rumored to feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 390 x 390 pixels and is expected to maintain the dimensions and lightweight design of its predecessor, the Vivoactive 5. Key specifications include an 8GB internal storage capacity, built-in GPS, and various advanced monitoring capabilities like heart rate tracking, pace monitoring, and animated workouts.

However, potential buyers should note that these details are unofficial and may not reflect the final product, as essential information such as battery life is still undisclosed. Visually, the Vivoactive 6 is expected to resemble the Vivoactive 5 closely, providing a familiar look with upgraded fitness functionalities.

Although it may lack some premium sensors like an altimeter and ECG capabilities to keep costs down, the anticipated price is around $300, with a launch expected as early as April. Beyond the Vivoactive 6, rumors circulate about potential new additions to the Forerunner family, including high-end and mid-range models.

The Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 270 are shrouded in secrecy, but their features and prices are speculated based on their predecessors. With strong battery life and advanced training features, these devices are likely to appeal to serious runners and triathletes.

In conclusion, Garmin is making strides to appeal to fitness enthusiasts with competitive pricing and innovative features, keeping the smartwatch market vibrant. The upcoming releases are eagerly anticipated as they blend performance with affordability.
