Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S25 series seems to have made a significant initial impact, according to data from Hana Securities. The firm reported that Samsung’s smartphone sales reached 19.03 million units last month. While this marks a 3% decline compared to January sales, it reflects a notable 15% increase from February of the previous year. During its debut month, the Galaxy S25 series shipped a total of 4.56 million units, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra capturing the majority—2.55 million units, accounting for 56% of the total sales.
The base Galaxy S25 model followed with 1.17 million units, making up 26%, while the Galaxy S25+ lagged behind at 840,000 units, or 19% of total shipments. Despite these impressive figures, a closer examination reveals a different story. In its first month, the Galaxy S24 series shipped 1.42 million units, which is three times that of its predecessor. Specifically, the Galaxy S25 Ultra sold 79% more units than the entire Galaxy S24 line combined.
The breakdown of last year’s shipments shows 320,000 for the S24, 270,000 for the S24+, and 830,000 for the S24 Ultra. However, when comparing daily shipments after the pre-order phase, the Galaxy S24 actually outperformed the Galaxy S25, with an average of 240,000 units shipped daily compared to 180,000 for the latter. This anomaly can be attributed to the shorter pre-order window for the S25, creating a surge in demand for the Galaxy S24 post-pre-order. Interestingly, while the Galaxy S25 saw sales declines in most regions, India was a notable exception, remaining strong amidst the fluctuations in other markets, including China.
