A lively group chat can significantly enhance communication, but the current method of adding new contacts in Google Messages can be cumbersome. In response, Google appears to be working on improvements to facilitate the expansion of group chats.
Recent code found in the beta version of Google Messages for Android suggests that users might soon be able to join group chats via links, similar to the feature available in WhatsApp. This potential update could simplify the process of inviting new members to group conversations.
While Android Authority discovered this feature, they were unable to activate it, indicating that it may take some time before it’s fully functional. The addition of a “join via link” option could help mitigate the challenges of forming group chats, especially for work or class groups where the number of potential participants can be substantial.
This feature would help ensure that no one is inadvertently left out, allowing everyone to stay informed about crucial communications. In addition to the joining feature, other modifications may also be on the horizon for Google Messages.
The forward message screen might receive an update to a more user-friendly card-based interface, aligning it with upcoming changes to the search user interface and the start chat screen. Minor updates, such as enhanced profile info screens and an easier way to change group chat images, have also been noted.
Furthermore, users will soon be able to report inappropriate GIFs by long-pressing on them and selecting “report.” While there are no guarantees that these features will make it to the final release, their existence signals Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance its messaging platform.
