Enhance Apple Maps on Your iPhone by Installing This App and Following the Instructions.

Posted on 17 March 2025

Apple iPhone users now have an opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of Apple Maps through a newly released app called Apple Maps Surveyor. This app, available for free in the App Store, is designed to collect valuable data while users navigate assigned routes. While the app is exclusive to iPhone users in the U.S., not all models, including the iPhone 15 Pro Max, may showcase it in their app stores. Once downloaded, users must also install a partner app called Premise, which compensates participants for completing surveys and submitting photos based on requests.

The Apple Maps Surveyor app tracks and gathers information about street signs and other roadside markers while users drive. Those participating in this initiative can expect specific locations to visit, especially areas where Apple requires updated information for its mapping services. This method of data collection not only empowers users to contribute directly but also helps Apple enhance its Maps product more efficiently. Apple has traditionally relied on vehicles equipped with advanced technology to gather mapping data, but the new approach utilizing user-generated content offers several advantages.

It is more cost-effective for the company to reward everyday iPhone users for their input compared to the expenses associated with operating specialized vans. Additionally, requesting multiple images for the same point of interest allows for richer datasets, ultimately leading to more accurate mappings. By leveraging the collective efforts of its user base, Apple is creating a mutually beneficial scenario that aids not only Apple in its data collection but also enhances the overall experience for Apple Maps users. In this way, the Apple Maps Surveyor app stands as a progressive step towards more accurate cartographic resources.
