Google has recently launched the third beta version of Android 16, marking the final stage before the stable release set for June. As the launch date approaches, Beta 3 introduces only a handful of new features, with Auracast support being a notable addition. This innovative technology allows a single device to broadcast high-quality audio to multiple receivers without the need for pairing.
While particularly beneficial for hearing devices like earbuds and hearing aids, Auracast can also enhance audio experiences for all users, regardless of hearing capabilities. Today, Google confirmed that Pixel 9 devices are fully compatible with this new Bluetooth technology. Once Android 16 officially rolls out in a few months, other smartphones will likely gain access to Auracast as well.
Currently, Pixel 9 users who download the latest beta can facilitate direct audio connections between their devices and hearing aids in bustling public settings. Notably, the Auracast support includes a variety of presets specifically designed for hearing aids, allowing users to customize audio streams according to their hearing preferences. Furthermore, Google is expanding its collaboration with Bluetooth SIG to implement LE Audio technology on Pixel 9 devices.
A convenient feature that has been introduced is the ability to connect to broadcasts via QR codes, eliminating the need to navigate through settings. To take advantage of Auracast, users only need to pair LE Audio compatible hearing aids from brands like GN Hearing and Starkey with their Samsung Galaxy devices or Pixel 9 smartphones. Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update already provided Auracast support, and even Xiaomi’s 2024 flagship models feature this function.
With this latest announcement, Google is making cutting-edge Bluetooth technology increasingly accessible to a broader base of Android users.
